If you'd like to learn PHP so you can make more intelligent, dynamic web sites but you haven't a clue how to start, read PHP Explained, a beginner's guide to PHP.
MySQL:
Once you've done that, the next stage is learning MySQL and using database features in your site. Read MySQL Explained, a beginner's guide to MySQL. But make sure you've read through the PHP Explained document first.
