Unlocking Typography on iOS

Apple devices offer phenomenal design capabilities in creative apps like Procreate, Keynote, Pages, Affinity Designer, and Cricut Design Space. However, installing custom .ttf or .otf files directly onto your device has historically been a frustrating hurdle requiring complicated desktop syncing or expensive monthly subscription apps.

iOS Font Builder solves this by packaging your font files into a secure, standard Apple Configuration Profile (.mobileconfig). This allows you to install and manage your typefaces natively in your iOS device Settings, exactly the way Apple intended – all directly from Safari without needing a Mac or PC intermediary.

Typography Heritage & Expertise

Built by a Typography Expert

I’m Keith Martin, a graphic designer, interaction lecturer, and typeface creator who has been designing custom fonts since the 1990s – including MacUser One, the house headline font for MacUser magazine. As the majority contributor to the reference book 1000 Fonts (Ilex Press) and a university lecturer on design and digital production for over 20 years, type is my lifelong passion.

Years ago, I built the original desktop iOS Font Maker app for macOS and Windows before there was any native way to add custom typefaces to iOS. It helped thousands of designers and creative professionals, but I always envisioned a tool that users could run directly on their mobile devices without needing a desktop intermediary. With modern web technologies, iOS Font Builder is the realization of that vision.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about installing fonts on iPhone and iPad.

Is it safe to install Configuration Profiles?

Yes. iOS Font Builder creates a standard configuration profile containing nothing but your font binary payloads (com.apple.font). Your iOS device securely sandboxes these fonts so they are safely available to your creative apps without altering device management, certificates, or network settings.

Where can I use these fonts?

Once installed, your custom fonts are available system-wide in compatible apps, including Pages, Keynote, Numbers, Procreate, Cricut Design Space, Affinity Designer, GoodNotes, and any app that supports standard iOS font selection.

Do you store my fonts?

No. Your actual font files never leave your device, and iOS Font Builder’s conversion process happens entirely inside your web browser memory. To help understand how the tool is being used, a simple text log records the time of use and the names of the fonts being converted, but your font files themselves are never uploaded or saved to any server.
